Are you fully introducing yourself?
What really is the most perfect way of introducing yourself to a room full of people?
If I were to introduce myself merely as an Instagram strategist for entrepreneurs, social media marketer for product businesses or a Marketing strategist with 8 years of work experience , I wonder is that all worth knowing about me?
What if those 8 years of working in corporate companies, leading teams, making presentations, managing accounts for big clients were not interesting enough for an introduction?
To be honest, I had a really exciting life outside my work hours in India. This is a life that I chose to live after I clocked out from work.
I was a freelance celebrity journalist, a musician who performed gigs at one of the hottest venues, a travel vlogger (look me up on youtube). There was this one year in 2012 where I ran a non profit with my brother that was known as “Lectures for Good” a crowdfunding model that raised funds through lectures. I was also a Coach at an ed-tech company where I taught 5 year olds Robotics and programming in their labs at school. I even wrote scripts and acted in regional movies back in India.
I dabbled into these opportunities because they allowed me creative freedom in learning a new skill in unconventional ways. I was bored of working like a gear in a wheel who was supposed to just do one specific task at all times. That’s what working in a corporate set up made me feel like.
I was honestly, very proud of all the things I was doing outside of my job. I didn’t really have a long term goal but I knew I was learning new things that was bracing me up for an uncertain future.
It makes me sad that despite all these interesting experiences and accomplishments, sometimes we have to pick only that one thing that we are pursuing right now- to introduce ourselves.
Because it seems fair to shine light on talking about relevant accomplishments because at the end of it, you want to be intentional even with your INTRODUCTION! That is unfair! REALLY! To me, an ideal career is the one where I can pursue all my projects, creative ambitions in a profitable way. I have always thought of my career as a series of projects and not “jobs” and I am proud of it.
In Seth Godin’s words: “The trick is not to represent the client, or the publisher, or the merchant. The trick is to represent the project, to speak up for the project, to turn it into what it needs to be.”
I will always be the curious and creative cat who is worthy of launching exciting new projects that impact the world in a positive way!

In an interview, my client asked me;” Tell me everything about you? “ I said, “Ummm. Where do you want me to start? From 2011–2014, I lived a really exciting life that has contributed a lot to who I am today but from 2014 on wards I spent most of my time focusing on Social Media Marketing and building online communities for ecommerce, payments….. “
